I've never recovered from that 1975 showing of THIS ISLAND EARTH and BARBARELLA! I was lucky to stay up so late that night (till 2am), way past bedtime. I'd been unable watch BARBARELLA'S previous BBC1 showing, when it was a Monday film, when it went out at 9.25pm.
1983 for me! Universal horror double-bills all through that wonderful summer...
I remember them all with such dewy eyed affection; the long hot summer holidays and being able to stay up late and watch a great ( and sometimes bizarre ) mix of films.....I liked the concept of having a Hammer or Amicus film paired with a Universal black and white classic. However can anyone recall any of the seasons that ITV did in the 1970s? Appointment with Fear was the one I remember mostly ( these were single film transmissions that appeared after the News at Ten )....
This is such a great idea. Halloween isn't even a great telly event anymore. I'd even watch more Tales of the Unexpected!
Douglas, I think the various local ITV stations used to show their own seasons of horror movies under different umbrella titles during the 70's and 80's. Where I lived, Anglia Television tended to run late night horror movies on Friday nights I think. I remember watching such "classics" as Food of the Gods, The Incredible Melting Man and Madhouse amongst various others!
